This policy is even more harmful to our security than it is to our society and culture. It may seem impossible that our nation could have the ability to seal our borders because of the vast territory we occupy. However, considering the capabilities of our military and the global presence we command, it is plausible that bringing the military home and repositioning them in defense of our own nation would go a long way toward achieving this goal. Sealing the border is possible and must be done for our unions security. The question is, what should be done with the millions of illegal immigrants that are here now? Deporting 10-20 million mostly productive people would be economically disastrous and create real potential for significant violent upheaval. I believe the workable and legitimate answer is to create a path to citizenship. Such a system would depend on allowing those who have been productive members of our society to become citizens by demonstrating proficiency in english, understanding of natural law found in the Bill of Rights, and our Constitutional system of limited government power. Continuing the current system creates class division between the non-citizen and citizens; it further exacerbates differences and creates real potential for conflict. No path to citizenship should ever be pursued absent total control of our borders.
